About me.
Hei, I'm Todd Alström. Founder of BeerAdvocate. Living in Helsinki, Finland since May 2023.
Dad, husband, OG champion of beer, social organizer, coder, privacy & tech enthusiast, coffee fiend, sci-fi geek, punk, gamer, Knight of the Brewers' Mash Staff, American Brewers Guild graduate, veteran, and whatnot.
Most of my beer (olut) drinking is Finnish lagers these days. Also obsessed with ruisleipä, salmiakki, friluftsliv, and kalsarikännit since moving to Suomi.
Social media is dead.
But you can always find me on:
- BeerAdvocate: arguably the best, and oldest (1996), online beer community dedicated to discussing, reviewing, and learning more about beer.
- Bluesky: a social app built on the AT Protocol, an open-source framework for building communities that can talk to each other over a modern, federated network that's not owned by a single company and offers users account portability and control over their social identity.
- Mastodon: a free, open-source, decentralized microblogging platform run by a non-profit with no ads, algorithms, cringey billionaires, and greedy megacorps. Also part of the fediverse, but runs on the ActivityPub protocol.
...and maybe lurking elsewhere.
